Dubai Future Labs (DFL) and Osaka University, in partnership with the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), have inked a landmark agreement to advance research and development (R&D) in cybernetic avatar technologies.
This collaboration falls under Dubai's ambitious "Research and Development Program," aimed at bolstering key economic sectors and fostering innovation across the emirate.
The initiative, titled "Cybernetic Avatar Alliance: Dubai Japan Laboratories for Cybernetic Avatar Technologies," will see joint efforts between DFL, JST’s Moonshot Goal 1 initiative, and esteemed Japanese institutions including the University of Electro-Communications and RIKEN. Together, they will establish a cutting-edge research laboratory focused on three primary projects: enhancing operator control over multiple cybernetic avatars, developing culturally adept avatar robots, and conducting social acceptance studies on various avatar models.
Khalifa AlQama, Executive Director of Dubai Future Labs, emphasized the collaboration's strategic importance, stating,
"We are dedicated to partnering with global leaders to push the boundaries of R&D in critical sectors."
Dr. Hashimoto Kazuhito, President of JST, highlighted the significance of international cooperation in pioneering future technologies, envisioning a society liberated from physical and temporal constraints by 2050.
This partnership not only signifies a milestone in technological innovation but also underscores Dubai's commitment to becoming a global hub for advanced research and development in robotics, digital technologies, and AI.
