As Dubai International Airport (DXB) prepares for the holiday season, passenger traffic is expected to surge, with over 5.2 million travellers projected between December 13 and 31. On peak days, daily foot traffic is estimated at 274,000 guests, with the weekend of December 20-22 set to be particularly busy, hosting around 880,000 travellers.
To handle the influx, Dubai Customs has enhanced its operations by expanding its inspection team and deploying 77 advanced inspection devices, including 58 for large luggage and 19 for hand luggage. These measures aim to ensure smooth travel experiences during the holiday rush.
iDeclare App: Simplifying Customs Clearance
Dubai Customs is leveraging technology to improve efficiency with the iDeclare app, which allows passengers to pre-declare goods, personal items, gifts, and currencies before their arrival. The app reduces customs clearance times to under four minutes at the red channel, streamlining the entire process for travellers.
Ensuring Seamless Travel
Khaled Ahmed Khoury, Acting Director of Passenger Operations at Dubai Customs, emphasized their commitment to efficiency and passenger satisfaction during peak seasons. He highlighted the importance of coordination between duty teams, building managers, and team leaders to address challenges in real-time. On-ground visits by managers and inspection directors are conducted to oversee operations during holidays and special occasions.
Passengers can also access essential travel and customs information, including prohibited items, duty-free allowances, and excess baggage policies, on the Dubai Customs website: dubaicustoms.gov.ae.
Dubai’s commitment to innovation and efficiency ensures that DXB remains a world-class gateway for travellers during the holiday season.
