Dubai Health has partnered with sustainability firm Positive Zero to deploy large-scale solar energy systems across 26 healthcare facilities in Dubai, marking a significant step toward greener healthcare operations while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
The agreement will introduce on-site solar rooftop and carport installations with a combined capacity exceeding 14.1 megawatts. The initiative supports Dubai Health’s long-term sustainability goals by integrating renewable energy directly into healthcare infrastructure without disrupting medical services.
During the first year, solar generation across the initial 13 facilities is expected to produce nearly 10,700 megawatt-hours of clean electricity. Over the lifetime of the project, carbon emissions are projected to decrease by almost 167,000 metric tons, an environmental impact comparable to planting around 4.3 million trees.
Solar carports will also enhance patient and visitor experience by creating nearly 3,000 shaded parking spaces while generating renewable energy. Once completed, the development will represent the largest solar car park capacity within the UAE healthcare sector.
As part of the collaboration, Positive Zero will implement efficiency upgrades at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, including its first Cooling-as-a-Service project. The system is expected to deliver energy savings of up to 15 percent and prevent more than 9,500 tons of carbon emissions throughout the project lifecycle.
Dubai Health leaders said the partnership reflects the healthcare sector’s growing role in supporting national sustainability targets, aligning with the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050 and Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2030. Positive Zero executives added that integrating clean energy solutions across high-traffic healthcare facilities will deliver measurable environmental benefits while advancing the country’s transition toward a low-carbon future.
