Dubai Health reported a sharp rise in kidney transplant procedures in 2025, highlighting growing awareness of organ donation across the UAE.
Physicians performed 73 successful transplants during the year, marking a 46 percent increase compared with 50 procedures recorded in 2024.
The milestone coincides with World Kidney Day, observed annually on March 12, and reflects the impact of national initiatives promoting organ donation.
The procedures were carried out under the National Programme for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue ‘Hayat’, a UAE-wide effort aimed at expanding organ donation and improving access to life-saving transplant services.
According to Mohamed Al Awadhi, Executive Director of the Dubai Health Women and Children's Campus and Chair of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee, the rise in procedures signals continued national progress in strengthening organ donation awareness and collaboration among healthcare entities.
Dubai Health’s integrated academic health system brings together clinical care, medical education, and research to advance transplant programmes while training specialised medical professionals. The initiative involves cooperation with multiple partners including the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Healthcare City Authority, Dubai Police, and several public and private hospitals.
Transplant coordinators play a critical role in guiding patients and families through every stage of treatment, from eligibility assessments to post-transplant care. Their work ensures medical evaluations, documentation, and waiting list placements are completed according to strict safety standards.
Community support also contributes to the programme’s growth. Al Jalila Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health, provides financial assistance through initiatives such as the “Your Donation Saves Lives” campaign.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences supports the effort through specialised training and research programmes aimed at advancing best practices in organ transplantation.
