Dubai has become the first Arab city to host the prestigious World Cities Culture Summit, inaugurated by H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Running until November 1, this year’s summit gathers representatives from over 36 global cities under the theme “Tomorrow’s Culture: How Will the Next Generation Shape Our World?”
Sheikha Latifa underscored Dubai’s role as a global cultural hub, highlighting its commitment to empowering youth and fostering the creative economy.
“Today, the world gathers in Dubai to explore culture’s power in shaping the cities of tomorrow and to establish a global framework for cultural policy,”
she remarked, pointing to Dubai’s vision to use creativity and innovation in building a sustainable future.
The summit, hosted at Al Shindagha Museum, began with an address by Emirati author Dubai Abulhoul, who emphasized cultural storytelling’s impact in bridging divides. The opening day included discussions on themes like the role of culture in addressing climate challenges and inspiring youth to engage with heritage.
In a notable moment, Sheikha Latifa launched “The Future of Education in the Creative Economy” report, spotlighting the essential role of education in developing a knowledge-driven economy. Additionally, Dubai introduced an innovative summit archive and a policy accelerator to enhance night-time cultural activities, setting new benchmarks for urban cultural engagement.
The summit continues with sessions at Alserkal Avenue, inviting public engagement on supporting the creative community. Dubai’s dynamic approach is shaping the future of culture and inspiring cities worldwide to harness the transformative power of creativity.
