H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, inaugurated the 3rd UNESCO World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress at Dubai World Trade Centre, marking the event's first appearance in the Arab world.
Organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, the Congress explores the theme "Digital Public Goods: Open Solutions and AI for Inclusive Access to Knowledge." Over 500 participants, including global leaders, policymakers, and educators, are attending the two-day event, aiming to advance equitable education through OER and emerging technologies.
In her keynote address, Sheikha Latifa highlighted the pivotal role of OER in expanding educational opportunities and leveraging technology to tackle global challenges. She emphasized the importance of collaboration and developing reliable, licensed resources for a sustainable educational future.
The Congress features high-level discussions, including panels on policy frameworks, AI integration, and global best practices in OER adoption. Highlights include the “Ministerial Panel: Shaping the Future of Education” and breakout sessions addressing inclusivity for Africa, Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and youth.
Dr. Tawfik Jelassi of UNESCO and other prominent speakers shared strategies for leveraging open solutions to enhance knowledge accessibility. The event will culminate in the Dubai Declaration for Action on OER, outlining actionable steps to promote inclusive, quality education worldwide.
By hosting this landmark event, Dubai reinforces its position as a global hub for knowledge-sharing and innovation.
