Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Expo City Dubai’s Al Wasl Plaza welcomed mayors and officials from around the world on Sunday for the opening of the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum.
The three-day forum, held in the Middle East for the first time in its 29-year history, gathers more than 150 mayors and representatives from over 300 cities to exchange ideas and forge partnerships aimed at building sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready urban centres.
Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, joined Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai, and The Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Councillor Adrian Schrinner, in officially opening the summit.
Al Basti highlighted Dubai’s position as a global hub for innovation and collaboration, describing Expo City as “a blueprint for sustainable urban development” where cities can share best practices and strengthen liveability and economic resilience.
The event opened with a light projection on the Al Wasl dome and a performance by the Firdaus Orchestra, setting an inspiring tone for discussions focused on turning ideas into action.
Delivered by Expo City Dubai in partnership with Brisbane City Council, the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum runs until 29 October at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, reinforcing Dubai’s growing influence as a leading destination for global dialogue on the future of cities.
