The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) has launched the first Global Conference on Economic Diversification, marking the start of an annual platform for policy leaders, academics, and international organizations to explore economic resilience.
Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, this two-day event builds on MBRSG’s Economic Diversification Index (EDI), an influential dataset aimed at guiding economic policy.
The UAE’s Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Alia bint Abdullah Al Mazrouei, delivered the opening keynote, highlighting the UAE’s success in diversifying its economy.
“Non-oil sectors now constitute 74% of the UAE’s GDP,”
she noted, emphasizing the nation’s forward-looking policies in sectors such as renewable energy, AI, biotechnology, and R&D. She also underscored the UAE’s initiatives to strengthen its entrepreneurship ecosystem and empower women entrepreneurs as part of the "We the UAE 2031" vision.
The event attracted over 150 participants from 30 countries, with notable speakers including Dr. Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of MBRSG, and Dr. Fadi Salem, Director of Policy Research at MBRSG. Key sessions featured insights on economic pathways in the Gulf region, financing green initiatives, and global economic diversification challenges, with contributions from top economists and policy experts from the IMF, UNDP, and other international organizations.
The conference agenda encompassed panels, roundtables, and closed sessions, with research topics ranging from AI's impact on diversification to decarbonization in oil-dependent economies. The conference will conclude tomorrow, promising impactful collaborations on global economic sustainability.
