Dubai hosted the Third International Conference of the Emirates Rare Diseases Society today, aimed at raising awareness and fostering cooperation in the treatment of rare diseases.
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Dubai Health Authority, and several international institutions, the event attracted over 300 doctors, along with children suffering from rare diseases and their families.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Abdullah Al Khayyat, CEO of Al Jalila Hospital, with the presence of prominent figures such as Mona Khalifa Hamad, Member of the Federal National Council, and Dr. Eman Taryam Al Shamsi, Consultant at Al Jalila Hospital and Chairman of the Conference. Dr. Al Khayyat highlighted the challenges posed by rare diseases, noting their complex, chronic nature and impact on patients' quality of life, urging for greater attention and advancements in diagnosis and treatment, including the use of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Al Shamsi outlined the conference’s focus on the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods, featuring 28 interactive workshops. The program also addresses the psychological and social challenges faced by patients and their families, offering solutions to improve their lives. Emphasis was placed on providing moral and psychological support, raising awareness, and sharing knowledge on rare diseases.
Nafisa Tawfiq, Chairman of the Emirates Rare Diseases Society, emphasized the UAE's commitment to supporting rare disease communities. The event also featured an exhibition from 13 local and international companies showcasing innovative treatments, underscoring the UAE's leadership in rare disease care.
The conference is set to play a key role in developing public health policies, raising awareness, and offering support to those affected by rare diseases across the country.
