Dubai Municipality and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority have launched a major afforestation drive to plant 20,000 trees across the emirate, marking the 20th anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum assuming leadership of Dubai.

The initiative will see trees planted in parks, residential neighbourhoods, and educational institutions, reflecting sustainability as a shared community responsibility.

Officials said the project aims to deliver long-term environmental and social benefits while enhancing quality of life for residents. It supports Dubai’s broader sustainability agenda and reinforces the city’s ambition to remain a global leader in green development. Public and private sector entities, schools, universities, and community members will take part in coordinated tree planting activities designed to promote engagement and environmental awareness.

Dubai Municipality has identified several locations for the campaign including Al Safa Park in Jumeirah, Al Barsha Pond Park, the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, Blossoms Park at Nad Al Sheba, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, and Al Quoz Pond Park. Other designated sites include parks in Al Mizhar Second, Al Mizhar Pond Park, Umm Suqeim, Al Warqa’a 3, and Al Aweer.

KHDA will invite participating schools and universities to register the varieties and number of trees they intend to plant. The authority will then work with Dubai Municipality to deliver saplings and ensure smooth implementation.

His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, described the initiative as a meaningful way to transform national milestones into sustainable community projects. He said it aligns with the Urban Environment pillar of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040.

Her Excellency Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director General of KHDA, said the campaign promotes a forward-looking approach to education and development while instilling values of environmental responsibility, cooperation, and belonging.

The project also supports the Dubai Green Project, which seeks to expand landscaped areas, improve air quality, mitigate climate change, and create healthier urban spaces for future generations.
