Dubai International Chamber Facilitates 200 Bilateral Business Meetings between Dubai and Indonesia
Dubai International Chamber, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, has successfully organised 200 bilateral business meetings between companies from Dubai and Indonesia during the first leg of the chamber’s week-long trade mission to Southeast Asia, which includes visits to Indonesia and Vietnam.
The trade mission, comprising representatives from 17 Dubai-based companies across various sectors, was organized under the 'New Horizons' initiative by Dubai International Chamber. It aims to facilitate the international expansion of Dubai businesses and seize opportunities in global markets. Non-oil bilateral trade between Dubai and Indonesia reached AED 12.9 billion in 2023, growing 7.7% year-over-year and 53.6% over the past decade. The mission's first day included a business forum in Jakarta, 'Doing Business with Indonesia,' supported by the UAE Embassy, Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment, and KADIN. The forum attracted 472 VIP officials, business leaders, and Indonesian companies, underscoring the keen interest in partnerships with Dubai-based firms.
During his opening remarks at the forum, His Excellency Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, highlighted the commitment to enhancing trade and investment ties between Dubai and Indonesia. He emphasized Indonesia's diverse economy and the mission's role in providing Dubai-based companies with opportunities in the Indonesian market and beyond.
Shaima Salem Alhebsi, Acting Chargé d'Affaires at the UAE Embassy in Jakarta, reiterated the UAE's dedication to exploring growth and investment opportunities across key sectors. She emphasized the alignment of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with bilateral relations and mutual efforts to boost trade.
Salem Al Shamsi, Vice President of Global Markets at Dubai Chambers, delivered a presentation on Dubai's economic landscape and its advantages for Indonesian companies. The event also featured a panel discussion with expert speakers from Indonesia's key economic sectors, providing insights into doing business in the country.
This was followed by a series of bilateral business meetings between representatives of companies from Dubai and Indonesia. The second day of the mission continued with additional bilateral business meetings, together with site visits to several Indonesian companies.
Dubai International Chamber has identified a range of sectors that offer export opportunities to Indonesia for Dubai-based companies, including aluminium; metals and precious stones; and copper and copper articles. Commodities with high-potential import opportunities from Indonesia to Dubai include wooden panels and sheets, palm oil, clothing, and cocoa butter. The most promising areas for investment in Indonesia include the automotive industry, the construction sector, and agriculture, particularly in the export of tropical fruits.
