The 18th edition of the Dubai International Food Safety Conference commenced today at the Dubai World Trade Centre, drawing over 3,000 food safety experts from around the world.
Running until 23 October, the event is themed “Future Foresight in Food Safety,” highlighting proactive approaches to emerging global challenges in the food sector and the pressing need for sustainable, innovative solutions.
In his opening address, Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, stressed the importance of agility in harnessing technological advancements to seize new opportunities. He highlighted the significance of tackling global issues such as climate change, evolving food consumption patterns, and rapid shifts in manufacturing processes. Al Hajri emphasized Dubai's leading role in envisioning the future of food safety globally.
The conference, which the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) recognized as part of World Food Day celebrations, focuses on solidarity and collective action in addressing the challenges threatening global food security.
Keynote speaker Dr. Kayan Akram Jaff from the FAO Sub-regional Office for the GCC States and Yemen emphasized the necessity of collaboration to innovate solutions that strengthen the resilience of global food systems.
Throughout the event, participants will engage in sessions and workshops that showcase cutting-edge innovations, such as sustainable nutrition, genetically modified foods, and advanced food testing technologies. A dedicated programme for students and young researchers also provides a platform for presenting groundbreaking research in food safety, ensuring the next generation's involvement in shaping the future of the industry.
