Dubai has opened the nineteenth edition of the Dubai International Food Safety Conference, bringing global experts together to explore how technology can reshape the future of food safety.
The event, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 17 to 19 November, is hosting more than 3,500 participants and 225 international speakers from 70 countries.
Organised by Dubai Municipality in cooperation with the FAO, the IAFP, and the National Environmental Health Association, the conference examines emerging technologies, strategies to reduce food waste, and ways to support sustainable global food systems. This year’s theme highlights the growing role of innovation in safeguarding food supply chains worldwide.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the conference has become a global meeting point for food safety leaders over its nineteen editions. He noted that discussions this year focus on the impact of artificial intelligence on food safety and align with Dubai’s long-term vision for a resilient and sustainable food ecosystem.
The FAO reaffirmed its partnership with Dubai, with Regional Representative Ahmad Mukhtar emphasising the importance of science-based food safety, advanced detection tools, and intelligent monitoring systems.
Dubai Municipality also announced several initiatives, including the Food Safety Storytellers – Creators programme, which aims to train 500 professionals and content creators to produce credible content on sustainable food. Other launches include the AI Food Intelligence Guide and DM Checked, a unified digital platform for inspection and nutrition monitoring.
The opening day concluded with the recognition of winners in the DM Food Elite Programme across independent, hotel, and quick-service restaurant categories.
