Mall of the Emirates (MOE) in Dubai launches its 'barrierless parking' system today, February 3.
Motorists visiting the mall over the weekend received notifications about the new system, which was first introduced at Deira City Centre last month. Announced in October, the paid parking system is part of a five-year partnership between Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) and Parkin PJSC, Dubai's largest operator of paid parking. The system uses seamless technology to allow vehicles to enter and exit without stopping at barriers, enhancing convenience for drivers.
MAF has assured that parking fees will remain the same, while the new upgrade offers a seamless, ticketless, and barrierless experience for efficient entry and exit, eliminating delays and concerns about lost tickets. Motorists should note that a Dh150 fine will be issued if parking fees are not paid within three days of leaving shopping centers. The MOE parking area now incurs a Dh3 fee. Many motorists use it to avoid congestion on Al Barsha’s inner roads and gain quicker access to Sheikh Zayed Road.
Here’s what you need to know about MoE’s new ticketless, barrier-free parking system:
How does it work?
Motorists can now enjoy a seamless parking experience with no barriers, thanks to the new system by MAF. Weekdays offer 4 hours of free parking, with charges only applying after that. Parkin’s cameras will automatically track vehicle duration, sending an SMS with a payment link once the free period ends. Payments must be made within 3 days to avoid fines.
Shoppers spending Dh150 or more get free parking for the entire day, while Vox Cinemas or Ski Dubai visitors can enjoy an extra 2 hours of free parking. To claim these perks, purchases must be validated at the customer service desk.
Parking fees:
- 0-4 hours: Free
- 4-5 hours: Dh20
- 5-6 hours: Dh40
- 6-7 hours: Dh60
- 7-8 hours: Dh100
- Over 8 hours: Dh150
Weekends are free, and overnight parking is prohibited with a fine of Dh200/day.
Is it required to register or sign up?
MAF confirmed that UAE-registered vehicles do not require parking tickets. Motorists will be contacted via the phone number linked to the car's registration. The same applies to rental or borrowed cars, with parking fees and fines billed to the rental company or car owner.
How to pay parking fees and fines?
No app download is required to use the parking service. Parking fees are sent via SMS, with payment options available through the provided link, the Parkin App, debit/credit cards, or Apple Pay.
What if the licence plate isn’t recognised upon entry or exit?
MAF guarantees a 99.99% accuracy rate. In the rare event of an issue, motorists won’t be charged. For assistance, call 800-Park (7275). Please note, parking at Mall of the Emirates incurs a Dh3 fee.
How to waive parking fees?
Enjoy free parking by validating at one of the following:
- Mall customer service: Present a receipt with a minimum spend of Dh150.
- VOX customer service: Show a cinema ticket for parking waiver.
- Parking management office: Validation available with proof of mall purchases.
- Valet parking: Automatic validation if you’ve used the service.
Persons of determination (PoD) can also have their parking fee waived at the customer service desk.
What will happen if you don’t pay?
MAF stated,
"You will receive an SMS reminder within two days of departure. On day 3, a phone call reminder will follow. If payment is not made by then, a standard Dubai parking fine of Dh150 will apply."
Are there any additional fees?
Motorists using the ticketless parking system should note that fines apply for specific violations. Parking in spaces reserved for people with disabilities without a valid permit, using an expired permit, or failing to display the permit properly will incur a Dh1,000 fine.
Privacy and security
Residents can rest assured that their vehicle and license plate details are securely protected, with personal data not shared with third parties. Vehicle data is stored as long as the car is registered, while transaction records are kept for up to three years for archival purposes, subject to change. For assistance, residents can visit the MoE mall customer service desk or call 800-Park (7275).
