Dubai Launches Excellence in Mosque Management Competition

Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) has introduced the “Excellence in Mosque Management Competition,” a regional first, as part of its 2025-2027 strategy.

The initiative aligns with IACAD’s vision to set a global standard for Islamic and humanitarian work, focusing on sustainable mosque management and enhanced community services.

The competition emphasizes excellence in mosque operations, covering environmental protection, service quality, and sustainable development. Evaluation criteria span social, economic, and environmental aspects, reinforcing IACAD’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.

His Excellency Ahmed Darwish Al-Muhairi, IACAD’s Director-General, highlighted the initiative’s goals to recognize best practices in mosque management and make them accessible globally.

“This competition encourages innovation, improves mosque readiness, and enhances services for worshippers while optimizing resource use and reducing carbon footprints,”

he stated.

Dubai’s 2,450 mosques and prayer spaces play a pivotal role in the community. The competition includes benchmarks for resource efficiency, safety standards, and engaging worshippers through religious and cultural activities. Special focus is given to reducing environmental impact by adopting renewable energy technologies and rationalizing water and electricity consumption.

IACAD also plans to unveil initiatives like “Imam Al-Fareej” and “Mu’adhin Al-Fareej” to strengthen community ties. With this initiative, IACAD aims to foster positive change, transforming mosques into sustainable spaces and enhancing their role as centers of spiritual and social growth.

The competition seeks to set a global example by integrating innovation, sustainability, and community service into mosque management practices.
