Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), part of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, has announced the activation of its final operational plan to manage marine traffic during the New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations.

The measures form part of the Authority’s proactive approach to maintaining maritime safety and ensuring the smooth movement of vessels during one of the busiest periods on Dubai’s waterways.

The plan will be implemented from the evening of Wednesday, 31 December 2025, and will be fully enforced from 10:00 pm on 31 December until 2:00 am on 1 January 2026. It focuses on high-density marine areas including Dubai Marina, Dubai Harbour, and Palm Jumeirah, where increased vessel activity is expected.

Key measures include the introduction of a one-way navigation system before and after midnight, alongside a temporary suspension of navigation during the transition period. Marine traffic beneath Palm Jumeirah bridges will be closed during peak hours within the same timeframe. Vessels will be classified by size, with specific routes and mandatory time windows assigned to each category to minimise congestion and reduce the risk of accidents.

Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of DMA, said the plan reflects Dubai’s commitment to the highest maritime safety standards and supports the emirate’s status as a global destination for major celebrations. He confirmed that patrol and monitoring teams will be deployed around the clock in coordination with relevant authorities, and that violations will be dealt with immediately under applicable laws.

The plan also includes strict controls on anchoring and drifting, regulated mooring areas, and full compliance with international maritime collision-prevention regulations. Vessel owners, marina operators, yacht clubs, and maritime agents are required to follow all issued instructions.

DMA has also advised sea-goers to monitor weather conditions carefully due to the possibility of unstable weather during the celebrations. To ensure coordination, the Authority held a dedicated workshop with strategic partners and marina operators to review routes, schedules, emergency procedures, and enforcement mechanisms, reinforcing readiness for safe and efficient maritime operations during New Year’s Eve 2026.
