The Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), part of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has officially kicked off the 2024-2025 marine sports season, expected to attract millions of visitors for various water activities.
To enhance safety during this bustling period, DMA has initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign focused on marine safety for all sea-goers.
His Excellency Nasser Al Neyadi, CEO of PCFC, emphasized the importance of creating a secure environment for marine sports.
“This campaign ensures that everyone can enjoy water sports while adhering to safety procedures to mitigate potential risks,”
he stated. The initiative responds to a significant rise in marine activity participation, aiming to reduce drowning incidents and injuries by working closely with maritime rescue authorities for effective emergency preparedness.
As part of this campaign, DMA has installed several safety buoys in Dubai's waters, marking designated swimming zones and restricted areas to prevent accidents. Al Neyadi highlighted that the initiative reflects DMA’s dedication to promoting marine tourism while adhering to global best practices.
The campaign also encourages sea-goers to follow precautionary measures, such as wearing life jackets, maintaining safe distances between vessels, and avoiding restricted zones. Furthermore, the authority urges compliance with local regulations, regular equipment inspections, and the importance of reporting trip schedules to local authorities.
To reach a broader audience, awareness materials will be distributed at sports centers and marine equipment retailers, supported by a media and social media campaign. These initiatives aim to reduce drowning incidents and enhance overall safety during the vibrant marine sports season in Dubai.
