Dubai’s maritime sector recorded unprecedented growth this year, with the number of permits issued by the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) up fivefold by the end of the third quarter compared to the same period in 2024.
The surge reflects rising global investor confidence in Dubai’s robust maritime ecosystem and its growing reputation as a leading international hub.
According to new figures released by the DMA, permits for vessels engaged in commercial maritime activities reached record levels. Permits for towing operations involving marine vessels and commercial ships also rose by 80%, underscoring the sector’s rapid expansion across multiple segments.
Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the Dubai Maritime Authority, attributed the growth to Dubai’s strategic infrastructure projects, including the development of new waterfronts and artificial islands, as well as ongoing sustainability initiatives. He noted that these projects enhance Dubai’s appeal to global investors by offering a safe, integrated, and environmentally responsible maritime environment.
He added that permits related to marine construction and waterfront real estate development have grown significantly, reflecting increased activity and confidence across the maritime value chain.
Sheikh Dr. Saeed emphasized that all permits issued by the DMA meet the highest international standards for safety and environmental protection, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to balancing economic progress with sustainability.
He concluded that the record growth signals Dubai’s steady rise as a global maritime destination and a model for sustainable economic development, supported by the emirate’s forward-looking leadership and strong regulatory framework.
