The Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), under the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, has reported exceptional 2024 performance figures, solidifying Dubai’s position as a global hub for maritime innovation and sustainability.
Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the DMA, described the results as a “milestone in Dubai’s journey toward global maritime leadership,” citing major strides in infrastructure, safety, innovation, and sustainability.
Key indicators showed sharp growth. Registered marine vessels rose 14.4% to 7,738, while certified marine crew members increased by 22.8% to 12,226 — reflecting rising investor confidence in Dubai’s maritime ecosystem. Offshore services surged, with 18,058 permits issued in 2024, a 35.3% increase year-on-year. Marina capacity also grew, reaching 4,151 berths across 19 marinas.
Foreign yacht visits climbed from 68 to 89, driven by enhanced luxury services, streamlined procedures, and the Golden Visa initiative for mega yacht owners.
Regulatory advancements included mandatory technical inspections for vessels, updated manning guidelines, and improved licensing regulations. The authority also introduced mandatory tracking devices for jet skis and a new two-year registration option.
Environmental efforts progressed with the launch of the Dubai Reef project, one of the region’s largest artificial reef initiatives, aimed at boosting marine biodiversity.
Digital transformation accelerated with enhancements to the “Rosoom” payment platform, the launch of the Smart Sailing Permit in collaboration with Dubai Police, and service expansion via WhatsApp, kiosks, and other platforms.
These achievements contributed to Dubai ranking first in the Arab world and eleventh globally in the 2024 Leading Maritime Cities report by Baltic Exchange and Xinhua — a strong affirmation of Dubai’s growing stature on the world maritime stage.
