In a strategic move to bolster Dubai’s media landscape, the Dubai Media Council (DMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the DMC. This partnership, part of the ‘Dubai From the Sky’ initiative, aims to streamline the deployment of drones for media-related filming in the emirate.
The MoU was signed by Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the DMC, and Mohammed Abdullah Lengawi, Director-General of the DCAA. The agreement facilitates efficient drone-based media operations, enabling swift permit issuance for timely media coverage, particularly for events.
Al Marri expressed gratitude to the DCAA, underscoring the role of the media in shaping society and the council's commitment to empowering media professionals with the latest tools and resources. She emphasized the creative potential of drone technology to enrich storytelling and elevate content quality.
Lengawi highlighted the DCAA’s dedication to providing a safe environment for drone use in media, noting the critical role of media in showcasing Dubai’s achievements. He reiterated the importance of partnerships in fostering creativity while ensuring airspace safety.
As part of the MoU, DCAA will offer accredited training programs in drone operation, ensuring technical and safety compliance. Selected DMC-nominated professionals will receive professional licenses following training, with both entities identifying approved aerial filming sites to maintain air traffic safety.
This collaboration marks a significant step in integrating advanced technology in Dubai’s media sector, aligning with the DCAA’s mission to uphold safety and innovation in civil aviation.
