Dubai Media Council Explores Collaboration with TikTok to Boost Media Innovation

In a strategic move to enhance Dubai's position as a global media innovation hub, the Dubai Media Council convened a meeting with TikTok, aligning with directives from His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Council. This meeting aimed to explore collaborative opportunities to promote knowledge exchange and elevate new media technology.

Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, met with Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, to discuss Dubai’s commitment to advancing new media platforms that benefit local communities. The meeting also included Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, who emphasized the media’s crucial role in supporting sustainable development aligned with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33 and Social Agenda 33.

Discussions focused on potential collaborations, particularly in training and knowledge sharing, leveraging TikTok’s expertise in cultivating a skilled generation of content creators. Al Marri stated,

“Dubai plays a key role in advancing the regional media landscape by fostering strategic collaboration with digital media industry leaders. Our focus is on harnessing successful global experiences to empower media professionals and content creators with innovative tools.”

Since establishing its regional headquarters in Dubai in 2018, TikTok has witnessed remarkable growth, particularly among younger audiences in the MENA region. As user engagement continues to rise, TikTok is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of media content creation in Dubai, showcasing the emirate’s success story to the world.
