Construction of the AED56.5 billion Dubai Metro Blue Line has reached 10 percent completion, just five months after its launch in June 2025, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The 30 km line, which includes 14 stations, will link Dubai’s Red and Green Lines, connecting major residential, economic, and educational areas. More than 500 engineers and 3,000 workers are currently deployed across 12 sites, with completion expected to hit 30 percent by the end of 2026. Full operations are set to begin on September 9, 2029.
Al Tayer said the Blue Line is a key part of RTA’s long-term strategy to support the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). Once operational, it will serve areas projected to house one million residents by 2040 and provide direct trips to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion by 20 percent and could boost property values near stations by up to 25 percent.
RTA confirmed that over three million work hours have been completed without any fatalities, underscoring the project’s adherence to international safety standards. Construction milestones include over 260 deep foundations and 400,000 cubic metres of excavation, with two ready-mix concrete plants established to streamline progress.
The Blue Line will feature two routes: from Creek Interchange Station in Al Jaddaf to Dubai Academic City, and from Centrepoint Interchange Station in Al Rashidiya to International City. Its architectural highlight, the Emaar Station, will become the world’s highest metro station at 74 metres, capable of handling 240,000 passengers per day by 2040.
