The Dubai Metro and Tram will operate nonstop for over 43 hours during New Year’s celebrations, starting from 5 AM on December 31 to 1 AM on January 2, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.

To ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth travel, the RTA is urging the public to use public transport. Additionally, a fleet of 1,400 buses will provide free rides across the emirate, offering convenient options for residents and visitors.

Extended Services and Station Closures

  • Dubai Metro: Operates from 5 AM on Dec 31 to the end of Jan 1.
  • Dubai Tram: Runs from 6 AM on Dec 31 to 1 AM on Jan 2.
  • Dubai Mall Metro Station: May close at 5 PM or earlier if crowd capacity is exceeded. Commuters are advised to use nearby stations like Business Bay.

Traffic and Signage

The RTA has rolled out road signage systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to guide commuters with real-time updates on road closures, alternative routes, and available parking locations. Variable message boards will also provide directions to bus pick-up points and key event venues.

Public Parks and Celebration Venues

  • Public parks: Open until 1 AM for visitors wishing to relax before or after festivities.
  • Celebration highlights: Fireworks and drone shows at 36 locations, including Burj Park, Global Village, Dubai Festival City Mall, Al Seef, Bluewaters, The Beach at JBR, and Hatta.

Hussain Al Bana, Executive Director of Traffic at the RTA, emphasized the importance of planning ahead and using public transport to avoid congestion. He assured that the RTA would deploy additional buses in high-demand areas to accommodate the increased number of visitors.

Celebrate safely and enjoy Dubai’s seamless transportation options for the New Year!
