Dubai Municipality has completed Phase 1 of a major sewerage and stormwater upgrade in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, delivering a critical infrastructure boost to one of Dubai’s most active industrial and commercial districts.

The AED250 million phase marks the first half of a wider AED500 million development aimed at strengthening the emirate’s long-term drainage capacity and resilience.

The project spans 1,600 hectares across Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as the corridor between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. It is designed as an integrated and adaptable system to support rapid urban expansion and increasing operational demand.

Phase 1 covered 155 hectares and 123 plots. It included the construction of 15 kilometres of sewerage pipelines ranging from 160 mm to 1,600 mm in diameter, alongside 14 kilometres of stormwater drainage lines with capacities reaching up to 3,000 mm.

Officials said the works align with Dubai’s wider Sewerage System Development Programme and the AED30 billion Tasreef initiative, which aims to build one of the region’s most advanced stormwater networks. The system is designed to significantly increase drainage capacity and support infrastructure performance over the next century.

Director General Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita said the project reinforces Dubai’s infrastructure resilience and supports sustainable urban growth, positioning the city for continued expansion as a global hub for investment and development.

Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the upgraded system will improve rainwater management, reduce water accumulation, and ensure uninterrupted operations across Al Quoz Creative Zone.

The initiative reflects Dubai’s broader push toward smart, sustainable infrastructure capable of supporting future environmental and urban challenges.
