Dubai Municipality has launched the Ehsan Stations initiative, introducing AI powered smart devices designed to feed stray animals across the emirate.

The project, the first of its kind in the region, aims to support animal welfare while promoting environmental sustainability and responsible feeding practices in public spaces.

Under the initiative, 12 smart devices will be installed at key locations across Dubai. Ten units will be placed in public parks while two will be located at facilities operated by Dubai Holding. The stations use artificial intelligence to identify stray animals, collect relevant data, and dispense food accordingly.

Officials say the system is designed to create a more organised and sustainable approach to feeding stray animals. By limiting random feeding practices, the initiative also helps maintain the cleanliness and appearance of public areas while supporting public health and ecological balance.

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the initiative reflects the emirate’s commitment to compassion and responsible urban management. She noted that the current rollout represents a pilot phase, during which the stations will be monitored and evaluated to guide further improvements.

The devices were designed and manufactured in the UAE using advanced technologies.

The initiative complements the municipality’s existing programmes for managing stray animals, including Trap Neuter Return and Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return systems. These programmes involve capturing stray animals, providing medical care, and returning them to their habitats if they pose no risk to the community.

Dubai Municipality also encourages residents to report concerns related to stray animals through its hotline and to practise responsible pet ownership.

The Ehsan Stations project builds on wider animal welfare efforts, including the previously announced Fountains of Mercy initiative that will install water fountains for birds and wildlife across urban and desert areas of Dubai.
