Dubai Municipality has launched new recreational plazas in Lehbab (1), Lehbab (2), and Nazwah, enhancing public spaces in line with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to develop Dubai’s countryside and rural areas into vibrant, people-focused environments.
The initiatives aim to enrich residents’ quality of life while supporting community wellbeing.
Covering more than 330,000 square feet, the new plazas feature modern sports courts, outdoor fitness equipment, children’s play areas with rubber flooring, running tracks, and seating zones for relaxation. Comprehensive landscaping and safety measures were implemented to create secure and accessible community spaces.
The developments form part of the Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Master Plan, which preserves the natural character of rural regions while delivering recreational services. The projects also contribute to the ‘Year of the Family’ and Dubai 2040 Parks and Afforestation Strategy, which targets the creation of over 630 parks to improve urban environments, reduce heat emissions, and advance sustainability goals.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted that the projects reflect a strategic focus on people-centered urban ecosystems, emphasizing comfort, wellbeing, and family-friendly spaces. Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency, noted the plazas were designed to meet community needs, promoting physical activity, social interaction, and tailored recreational experiences.
Each plaza offers specialized facilities: Lehbab (1) includes two football pitches, a volleyball and basketball court, running tracks, fitness equipment, and children’s play zones. Lehbab (2) features similar amenities with a football pitch, multi-sport courts, and safe play areas, while Nazwah provides leveled grounds, sports courts, running tracks, and a children’s zone.
Dubai Municipality is also developing Margham and Al Lisaili parks, which will offer football pitches, sand tracks, landscaped seating, decorative planting, advanced lighting, and smart surveillance systems, further enhancing rural recreational opportunities.
The projects align with the broader Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, emphasizing sustainable, integrated public spaces that improve residents’ daily lives and strengthen connections with their communities.
