Dubai Municipality has opened registrations for the 18th edition of the Dubai International Food Safety Conference, scheduled to take place from October 21 to 23, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC).

This year’s conference, themed ‘Future Foresight in Food Safety,’ is organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), and the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).

The event will gather specialists, academics, experts, and researchers from local, regional, and global food sectors to discuss the latest technologies, innovative strategies, and predictive methodologies for improving food safety. It aims to provide a platform for professionals and research institutions to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices in food safety and security. Attendees will include representatives from legislative and governmental bodies, private sector institutions, and experts in food safety, sustainability, and nutrition.

A special focus will be placed on programs for students, young scientists, and researchers, fostering the next generation of food safety leaders. Sultan Al-Taher, Director of the Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Conference, emphasized the event’s role in supporting Dubai’s contributions to the future of food safety. He highlighted the importance of proactive identification and evaluation of emerging trends and risks within food systems, leveraging technology tools, data analytics, and horizon scanning.

Al-Taher stated,

Future foresight measures involve risk estimation processes using technology tools, data analytics, and horizon scanning, followed by developing policies to mitigate identified risks. The Food Safety Department aims to enhance future foresight programs through capacity-building initiatives and focused discussions.

Dubai Municipality expects the participation of over 2,000 specialists and experts from oversight bodies, research centres, and food safety organizations worldwide. The conference has been a global platform for the past 17 years, facilitating discussions on challenges in the food sector and supply chain.
