Dubai Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Expo City Dubai Real Estate Developments FZCO to establish a construction technology innovation hub at Expo City Dubai, strengthening the emirate’s role as a global centre for sustainable urban development and next-generation construction solutions.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chief Executive Officer of Expo City Dubai Authority, and His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality. The partnership will create a dedicated ConTech hub that supports the development, testing, and deployment of advanced construction systems and smart urban technologies.
Positioned within Expo City Dubai’s Green Innovation District, the hub will function as a living lab for pilot projects and technology demonstrations focused on sustainable development. It will support innovation across modern construction methods, including modular systems, robotics, 3D concrete printing, circular materials, digital twins, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things solutions, and net-zero technologies.
A key element of the initiative is the development of certification pathways and regulatory sandboxes to enable the safe adoption of innovative materials and construction systems within Dubai’s built environment. The hub will also contribute to the creation of standards and conformity testing frameworks.
The partnership includes joint training programmes, capacity-building initiatives, collaborative research, and international knowledge exchange. It will engage start-ups, SMEs, corporates, investors, and academic institutions to foster a strong innovation ecosystem.
The MoU was signed by Maryam Obaid Al Mheiri of Dubai Municipality and Ahmed Al Khatib of Expo City Dubai, who both highlighted the hub’s role in driving responsible growth, digitalisation, and environmental stewardship in the construction sector.
