Dubai Municipality has moved to strengthen the emirate’s food safety ecosystem by signing five new cooperation agreements with government bodies, private sector organisations, and leading universities.

The deals aim to expand scientific research, accelerate the use of advanced technologies and AI, and reinforce the resilience of Dubai’s food supply chains.

The agreements were finalised during the nineteenth Dubai International Food Safety Conference, which brought together more than 3,500 participants and 225 experts from 70 countries. The event is recognised as the region’s largest platform for global dialogue on food safety.

One of the key partnerships was signed with the Jebel Ali Free Zone. The agreement focuses on simplifying food safety compliance for major food companies, enhancing supply chain agility, unifying procedures across the free zone, and speeding up food clearance processes to support public health.

Dubai Municipality also partnered with Ecolab UAE General Trading to advance water system safety, food safety, and consumer product safety. The collaboration prioritises sustainable practices, regulatory development, and the adoption of AI and modern technologies to elevate sector-wide standards.

In academia, agreements with Canadian University Dubai and Manipal University Dubai will enhance research, technical consultations, and the development of solutions in environmental health, safety, and food safety. The partnerships include knowledge exchange on food inspection systems and greater use of AI and data analytics. They also support youth development through training and community programmes.

A separate agreement with the Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai will boost research, student training, and innovation in food safety, including AI use in inspection and risk assessment.

Dr Naseem Al Rafaei, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency, said the collaborations reaffirm Dubai’s commitment to building a sustainable and trusted food ecosystem supported by advanced technologies and proactive capabilities.
