Prior to the global pandemic in 2020, the council set this goal

The Dubai Ruler and the Council set a goal of Dh2 trillion for non-oil foreign commerce in Dubai back in 2020.

The statement was made on X by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates. He highlighted how the emirate succeeded in spite of unusual conditions.

He explained how his team had advised him against aiming so high—Dh2 trillion by 2025—given that the Covid-19 outbreak had just hit the world and was causing disruptions to international trade.

"Life experiences taught me that crises are the best time to develop and think outside the ordinary,"

the leader stated.

After establishing the goal, Dubai created policies, started a number of projects, and effectively combated the pandemic.

"Today, we have reached our goal, thanks to God and his success,"

Sheikh Mohammed declared on Tuesday, one year ahead of schedule.
