In a groundbreaking initiative to promote Emirati culture and language, Al Freej Nursery in Dubai is hiring local mothers over the age of 50 to engage with children and create an authentic family atmosphere.
Director Hamda Al Mutaiwi emphasized the nursery's commitment to prioritizing Arabic language instruction, stating,
“The Arabic language is declining as children spend significant time playing English games on their devices.”
The nursery, launched by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (Iacad), seeks qualified UAE national mothers with experience in early childhood education. Currently, it accommodates 45 children aged 1 to 4 but has the capacity for 101. Enrollment is prioritized for working mothers from Iacad and Emirati families, although any working mother from nearby areas is welcome to register her child.
Al Freej Nursery aims to instill Islamic values and authentic Emirati traditions in young learners.
"We concentrate on two key aspects: the Arabic language and national identity,"
Al Mutaiwi added. The nursery features three classrooms, a clinic, and both indoor and outdoor play areas, with unique rooms named after heritage figures, such as “Dkhtoora Zainab,” honoring a respected late doctor in the UAE. Children wear traditional Emirati clothing, with boys in 'kandura' and girls in 'mukhawara.'
To further enhance their cultural initiatives, the nursery collaborates with Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). Looking ahead, Al Mutaiwi announced plans for an additional nursery opening next year, reinforcing their commitment to fostering local culture and nurturing an Emirati community. The monthly fee for attendance is set at Dh2,750, and interested parents can schedule an introductory session for registration.
