As temperatures in the UAE soar beyond 50 degrees Celsius this summer, the risk of tyre bursts and flat tyres increases significantly. These incidents can be caused by heat pressure, overloading, damage, inflation issues, and the age and quality of the tyres. To ensure motorists stay safe, Dubai Police have issued essential safety tips and guidelines for handling a tyre burst while driving. Additionally, they are offering a free car inspection service until the end of August to encourage vehicle safety checks.

Safety Tips for Handling a Tyre Burst

In the event of a tyre burst while driving, follow these guidelines from Dubai Police:

  1. Maintain a Firm Grip on the Steering Wheel: This helps you control the vehicle and prevent swerving.
  2. Apply Brakes Gradually: Avoid sudden braking to maintain control.
  3. Lift Your Foot Off the Accelerator Gradually: This helps to slow down the vehicle without causing a sudden change in speed.
  4. Check Road Conditions: Ensure the road is clear on your right before steering towards the roadside.
  5. Gradually Reduce Speed: Lightly apply the brakes until you come to a complete stop.
  6. Turn on Emergency Lights: This alerts other drivers to your situation.

Importance of Regular Tyre Checks

Tyres are more prone to failure during extreme heat due to lack of maintenance checks. To prevent tyre blowouts, it is crucial to conduct a full vehicle inspection, especially in the summer months. To support this, Dubai Police is offering a free car inspection service at AutoPro centres across the UAE until the end of August. All private car owners are encouraged to take advantage of this service to ensure their vehicles are in safe condition.

Additional Warnings from Abu Dhabi Police

Abu Dhabi Police have also warned motorists about the dangers of tyre bursts, highlighting that 22 traffic accidents were recorded in 2023 due to this issue. They have advised drivers to be cautious and perform regular checks. Moreover, they have listed six items that are prone to catching fire if left in a car during the hot months, urging caution.

By following these safety tips and taking advantage of free inspection services, motorists can significantly reduce the risks associated with tyre bursts and ensure a safer driving experience during the extreme summer heat.
