The Dubai Police General Command has recently signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Onstar Global Services Corporation - Dubai Branch with the aim of enhancing cooperation in the areas of developing traffic security operations, road safety and traffic management solutions.
The MoU was signed by Major General Engineer Kamel Butti Al-Suwaidi, Director General of Operations at Dubai Police, and Mr. Gary West, Managing Director of OnStar Middle East and Head of Future Mobility, in the presence of officials from both sides.
The MoU seeks to achieve a number of goals, including supporting smart technology to transfer information in emergencies per the specifications in the country, introducing smart solutions technologies in coordination with the various concerned bodies, ensuring the safety of individuals and private properties, and discussing the possibility of testing and future technologies in Dubai.
The MoU also stipulates cooperation and participation in activities related to supporting traffic safety and developing solutions, follow up on exchanged correspondences between Dubai Police and the two companies, and prepare the necessary reports to follow up on them and ensure their proper implementation.
Strengthening Cooperation
Major General Al-Suwaidi said the MoU is in line with the directives of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, and embodies the force’s keenness on building and strengthening ties of cooperation with partners to enhance road safety and security operations.
“The MoU is a roadmap for enhancing emergency response and achieving the Dubai government strategy of enhancing the safety and security on public roads,” he said.
Life-saving Technology
Al-Suwaidi added that Dubai Police General Command is keen on adopting and applying all technologies that contribute to providing excellent services to the public and saving lives in emergency situations.
“Dubai Police has an outstanding record in terms of emergency response at the local and global level, which has significantly contributed to increasing the level of safety and security and reducing worrying crimes,” “The eCall will surely contribute to enhancing and developing the results of this vital indicator,” Al-Suwaidi added.
Al-Suwaidi further explained that the agreement activates a new eCall service for subscribers with modern vehicles supporting the technology. He explained that a special device can be installed in the vehicle to connects it to the operations room of Onstar Global Services Corporation - Dubai branch who would evaluate and analyse received reports before transferring them to the Dubai Police Operations Room.
Advanced Solutions
Lt. Col. Engineer Abdullah Ahmed Al-Mulla, Acting Deputy Director General for Communications and Technology Affairs at Dubai Police, said that the Dubai Police General Command is the country’s pioneer to work with partners on carrying out road safety and security operations and services, and introducing technologies per the best practices in the field of emergency response.
Al-Mulla explained that the General Department of Operations at Dubai Police utilises the latest technologies and systems to enhance speed up their response in emergencies.
“These include systems for locating accident reports via GPS, and AI-based systems such as the Smart Security Prediction System, “The Department also analyses big data to redistribute patrols and focus on zones where emergency reports are frequent,” he said.
eCall
Captain Ali Saif Al-Ramsi, Head of the Electronic Development Section at Dubai Police, said the new service would contribute to receiving emergency reports such as serious or medium accidents or cases that require police intervention. He pointed out that this device, which will be available in vehicles of 2021 models, guarantees the speedy arrival of police patrols to accident sites, and the evaluation of the reports prior to dispatching traffic patrols.
