Dubai Police's Genome Centre Joins International Pathogen Surveillance Network

The Genome Centre at the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology of Dubai Police has officially joined the International Pathogen Surveillance Network (IPSN), a global initiative launched by the World Health Organization (WHO). This move underscores Dubai Police's commitment to enhancing public health security and environmental safety through cutting-edge genomic technologies.

IPSN is a worldwide platform that facilitates the exchange of expertise in infectious disease monitoring, epidemic surveillance, and pathogen detection using genomic sequencing. The network's primary objective is to enable early identification of emerging health threats, allowing for swift responses and collaborative solutions across nations.

Major General Ahmad Thani bin Ghulaita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, highlighted that Dubai Police’s membership in IPSN solidifies the UAE's leadership in genomics and environmental analysis, contributing to strengthening health and ecological security.

Colonel Engineer Rashid Lootah, Deputy Director of the department for Technical Affairs, called the membership a milestone, reinforcing Dubai Police’s dedication to developing innovative solutions for pathogen detection and rapid response. He further noted that the centre will expand its collaboration with international research institutions, enhancing global knowledge-sharing.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Muhammad Ali Al Marri, Director of the Genome Centre, expressed that this membership will drive the development of advanced technologies for pathogen surveillance, bolstering biological security in the UAE and fostering global research cooperation.
