Dubai Ports Authority has unveiled a new smart system that uses artificial intelligence and robotic process automation to issue operational approvals and safe work permits, marking a major step in the emirate’s push toward full digital transformation.

The platform aims to streamline government services, improve efficiency, and strengthen safety standards across port operations.

The system is part of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation’s wider strategy to adopt advanced technologies and shift key services to self-managed digital processes. According to Nasser AlNeyadi, CEO of the Corporation, the initiative is designed to deliver a smoother customer experience and support safer and more efficient port activities.

The technology covers approvals for activities that meet established technical and safety standards. These include the acceptance of dangerous goods, vessel bunkering operations, ship waste discharge to reception facilities, and safe work permits in ports and ship repair zones.

With roughly 44,000 transactions processed each year, the system allows eligible requests to be issued instantly after automated verification of data and requirements. Cases that fall outside standard criteria are directed to human review to ensure governance and compliance.

Al Neyadi said the initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to innovation and global competitiveness. By reducing processing times and offering more seamless services, the smart system aims to enhance the emirate’s position as a leading hub for trade and maritime activity.

He added that the platform will continue to evolve based on performance evaluations, with plans for further enhancements to support Dubai’s long-term digital transformation goals.
