Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed that public transport, shared mobility and taxis carried around 348.1 million riders in the first six months of 2026, with average daily ridership nearing 1.9 million.
The figures span Dubai Metro and Tram, public buses, marine transport, taxis and shared mobility services such as app-based vehicles, hourly rentals and bus-on-demand offerings. Limousines added a further 5.7 million riders over the same period.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, said the results reflect the strength of Dubai's integrated transport ecosystem and its focus on sustainability and innovation. He noted that public transport and shared mobility's share of overall trips has climbed from 6% in 2006 to 22.3% last year.
Dubai Metro led ridership with a 39.2% share, followed by taxis at 25.5% and public buses at 24.4%, together accounting for nearly 89% of all trips. January was the busiest month with 73.4 million riders, while other months ranged between 49 and 66 million.
BurJuman and Union stations topped the list of busiest interchanges, recording 8.4 million and 6.5 million riders respectively. On the Red Line, Al Rigga Station led with 6.4 million riders, while Sharaf DG Station topped the Green Line with 4.9 million.
Al Tayer pointed to major projects ahead, including the 30-kilometre Metro Blue Line, the AED 34 billion Gold Line and the phased rollout of 637 new Euro 6 buses, 40 of them electric. RTA also began driverless taxi operations this year and is preparing to launch Air Taxi services by year end, part of its drive to lift public transport's share of trips to 25% by 2030.
