Dubai’s food and restaurant sector continues to rise as one of the world’s fastest-growing gastronomic hubs, according to the third annual Dubai Gastronomy Industry Report, released by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.
The report, which covers achievements and trends in the sector for 2024, underscores the city’s thriving status as a leading food tourism destination, attracting both residents and global visitors.
In the past year, Dubai has issued 1,200 new restaurant licenses across a variety of categories, showcasing its rich multicultural identity. These additions reflect the city’s dedication to providing diverse dining options, catering to all tastes and preferences. A recent survey conducted among over 1,100 food lovers revealed a significant 62 percent customer satisfaction rate, reflecting positive trends in the city's dining scene.
Key factors influencing restaurant choice were revealed in the report, with variety (70 percent satisfaction), innovation (61 percent), and cultural heritage (58 percent) ranking high among residents. Dubai’s reputation as a gastronomic destination has also been bolstered by the presence of world-class chefs, with 64 percent of diners expressing satisfaction in this regard.
Dubai’s success is further demonstrated by its ranking as the second-best global city for food, behind only Paris, surpassing culinary giants such as New York, London, and Tokyo. Additionally, social media plays a pivotal role in shaping dining decisions, with 70 percent of UAE residents consulting platforms for restaurant recommendations. Hygiene also remains a top priority, with 50 percent of respondents highlighting it as the most important factor when choosing a dining venue.
As Dubai continues to innovate and expand its culinary offerings, it is solidifying its position as a global gastronomic leader, contributing to the city’s broader tourism strategy under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
