Dubai Leads the Arab World in Maritime Power, Ranks 5th in Global Shipping Index

Dubai has once again solidified its status as a global maritime powerhouse, ranking fifth in the 2024 International Shipping Centre Development (ISCD) Index.

This marks the fifth consecutive year Dubai has maintained its position among the top five global shipping centres, trailing only Singapore, London, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Notably, Dubai is the only Arab city in the top 20.

The ISCD Index, published by the Baltic Exchange and Xinhua News Agency, assesses the global competitive ability of maritime hubs. The latest report, titled ‘Dubai Reinforces Its Position as a Leading Maritime Powerhouse in the Middle East’, highlights the emirate’s efforts to boost transparency through the Dubai Maritime Authority’s container fee regulations and its rise in the global logistics scene.

His Excellency Sultan bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, expressed pride in the achievement and emphasized Dubai’s commitment to enhancing its maritime sector. He noted the sector’s crucial role in achieving Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33.

The report also emphasized Dubai’s focus on decarbonisation and environmental sustainability, particularly following the city’s hosting of COP28.

Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime Authority, reiterated that innovation and sustainability are key drivers behind the emirate’s maritime leadership.

With a strong focus on future trends, sustainability, and global best practices, Dubai is poised to maintain its leading position in the global maritime sector for years to come.
