Dubai recorded its lowest ever road fatality rate in 2023, with just 1.6 deaths per 100,000 people, significantly surpassing the target of reducing the rate to two.

This marks a 93% decrease in traffic accident fatalities since 2007, according to top officials. The ambitious goal of Dubai's Traffic Safety Strategy is to bring road fatalities down to zero.

This achievement was highlighted during a coordination meeting between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police, who have been implementing "enhanced traffic enforcement" initiatives. In 2023 alone, more than 500,000 violations were recorded concerning pedestrian crossings, motorcycles, bicycles, and e-scooters.

Key measures included analyzing and addressing 29 sites with recurring incidents, implementing a smart management project for public transport drivers, and conducting joint traffic awareness and enforcement campaigns. Additionally, there were targeted awareness and inspection campaigns for delivery motorcycle riders.

The meeting also covered the safety requirements for the upcoming Blue Line project, a 30km extension featuring 14 stations. Set for completion in 2029, the Blue Line will connect with the Red Line at Centrepoint Station and the Green Line at Al Khor Station, serving nine areas and an expected 200,000 passengers daily.

These concerted efforts reflect Dubai's ongoing commitment to enhancing road safety and ensuring the wellbeing of its residents and visitors.
