Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police have reinforced their strategic partnership to elevate road safety and transport security across the Emirate.
In a high-level coordination meeting, Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, and Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, reviewed progress under the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy 2022–2026 and outlined future plans.
Key agenda items included the Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit initiative, focusing on regulating electric scooters, and the 2024 performance indicators showing significant progress. Road fatalities have plummeted by 92%—from 21.7 per 100,000 people in 2007 to just 1.8 in 2024. Pedestrian deaths dropped from 9.5 to 0.3 during the same period.
Al Tayer highlighted the successful execution of 53 joint initiatives in 2024, praising the shared commitment to achieving Dubai’s "Zero Fatalities" vision. Al Marri emphasized the impact of awareness campaigns, which reached over 255,000 people and garnered more than 117 million views through 24 educational videos.
Enforcement efforts in 2024 were robust: over 145,000 violations by delivery motorcycles, nearly 40,000 involving bicycles and e-scooters, and approximately 60,000 pedestrian infractions. Authorities impounded around 82,000 vehicles and mobility devices.
Under RTA’s 2030 plan, enhancements will span road infrastructure, public transport, traffic policy, and smart systems. Highlights include the Dubai Metro Blue Line, flexible working hour policies, and Phase 2 of the Intelligent Traffic Systems project.
With bicycle and e-scooter trips rising to nearly 79 million in 2024, the new monitoring unit will ensure safety and compliance. Both entities reaffirmed their commitment to proactive enforcement, education, and infrastructure upgrades—aiming to make Dubai a global benchmark for road safety.
