Dubai Silicon Oasis and MIT DesignX Celebrate Success of MDXB Accelerator Program
Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Global Growth Hub (GGH), recently concluded the MIT DesignX Dubai Accelerator Program’s (MDXB) Demo Day.
The event marked the successful completion of an intensive three-month curriculum for the second cohort of innovative startups.
During the Demo Day, the team "theion" emerged as the winner, receiving accolades for their pioneering work in lithium-sulfur crystal battery technology. Represented by CFO Matthias Fengler and Co-Founder Johannes Eisele, the team was awarded AED 100,000 in equity-free funding and a one-year business setup at the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus (Dtec), the largest tech co-working space in the MENA region. The award was presented in the presence of distinguished figures, including His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, and Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Director General of DSO.
Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi expressed that the MDXB program demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to being a global innovation hub, offering entrepreneurs access to investors, mentors, and state-of-the-art facilities at Dtec. MIT DesignX’s Executive Director, Gilad Rosenzweig, praised the region’s entrepreneurial spirit and the program’s success in nurturing high-impact solutions.
Omar Hassan, Managing Director of GGH, announced that phase two of the program would focus on supporting startups with market entry, and recruitment for the third cohort will open in the summer.
The startups, representing Europe, the US, and the GCC, focused on ESG principles, with innovations in sectors like hydrogen technology, waste management, and energy storage. This accelerator program highlights Dubai’s growing stature as a global startup ecosystem.
