Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a hub for innovation and a member of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), has unveiled the second cohort of the MIT DesignX Dubai Accelerator (MDXB).

Launched in September 2023, this collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Global Growth Hub (GGH) aims to nurture global startups focused on sustainability and innovation.

The 10 selected startups, chosen from over 400 global applications, hail from Europe, the US, and the GCC, emphasizing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Their projects span hydrogen technology, waste management, emissions reduction, and energy storage. Notable participants include Protium Technologies, Kanz, PeykBot, and Circa Biotech.

The accelerator’s rigorous curriculum, developed by MIT, combines workshops, design, and business classes held at the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus (Dtec), the MENA region’s largest tech hub. The program, running until May 2025, provides mentorship from industry leaders, MIT alumni, and interns.

A key highlight will be Demo Day on January 30, 2025, where startups will present to investors and industry leaders. The event will also announce the cohort winner.

Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Director-General of DSO, remarked,

“This initiative aligns with our commitment to fostering a thriving ecosystem for technology and sustainability entrepreneurs in Dubai.”

MIT’s Gilad Rosenzweig and GGH’s Omar Hassan highlighted the program’s focus on innovation, leadership, and sustainability, supporting the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future.

Through MDXB, Dubai cements its position as a global innovation hub, empowering startups to address critical global challenges.
