Dubai SME, part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), has launched a new accelerator programme in partnership with global innovation leader Plug and Play to help Emirati-owned startups scale, attract investment, and expand internationally.
The initiative supports Dubai’s long-term goal of economic diversification and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to double the size of the emirate’s economy by 2033.
Focusing on technology-enabled businesses, the programme will provide tailored mentorship, global exposure, and access to key markets. Operated by Plug and Play, it forms part of the activities hosted at Dubai Founders HQ, a collaborative space launched earlier this month at the 25Hours Hotel in One Central to strengthen the city’s startup ecosystem.
Ahmad Al Room Almheiri, Acting CEO of Dubai SME, said the programme demonstrates the city’s commitment to empowering Emirati entrepreneurs and advancing sustainable, innovation-driven growth. He described it as a model of collaboration between government and the private sector to position Dubai as a leading global hub for startups.
Key government entities including Dubai Health, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police, Emirates Flight Catering, and GDRFA-Dubai will engage with participating startups to address sector-specific challenges and co-develop practical solutions. This cooperation aims to foster homegrown innovation and deliver real-world impact across vital industries.
Saeed Amidi, Founder and CEO of Plug and Play Tech Center, said the partnership bridges Silicon Valley and Dubai, bringing world-class expertise to support Emirati founders. The accelerator will host two cohorts annually, each featuring ten startups, offering investment readiness training and opportunities to connect with investors and partners, creating a lasting foundation for Dubai’s innovation economy.
