Dubai residents may soon experience a revolutionary way of commuting, thanks to the Floc Duo rail showcased by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) at Gitex Global 2024.

This innovative transport solution allows autonomous electric pods to glide above ground, transporting passengers seamlessly to their destinations.

Hassan Al Mutawa, rail maintenance director at RTA, highlighted the system's practicality.

"It's cheap and fast to construct,"

he stated, explaining that once manufactured, the pods can be easily assembled on-site without the need for extensive infrastructure. Currently in prototype testing, Al Mutawa expressed optimism for its future implementation in Dubai.

The Floc Duo pods, designed with eight seats each, can operate independently or in coordinated groups, dynamically adjusting based on real-time traffic conditions. The system is versatile, capable of functioning on roads, in tunnels, and along elevated tracks, making it adaptable to various transportation needs.

Earlier this month, Dubai’s Executive Council announced plans for a 65km suspended transport project connecting key areas such as Umm Suqeim Street, Ras Al Khor, and Zabeel, reinforcing the city's commitment to enhancing urban mobility.

Al Mutawa emphasized the Floc Duo rail's potential to alleviate road congestion in busy urban environments.

“This system combines new technologies with operational efficiencies,”

he remarked. By integrating with existing transport modes like metro, trams, and buses, the Floc Duo rail promises to improve first and last-mile connectivity, providing a comprehensive solution for end-to-end transportation in Dubai.
