In a significant advancement towards sustainable growth, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum chaired the 84th meeting of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) virtually.
The session, attended by key figures including HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, focused on reviewing the annual carbon emissions inventory, which revealed an impressive 29% reduction.
This reduction underscores the effectiveness of Dubai’s strategic initiatives aimed at cutting carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. As a pioneer in emission control, Dubai continues to implement various programmes and projects in collaboration with entities such as the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Municipality, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), and Dubai Petroleum.
Aligning with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Council discussed strategies to transition Dubai into a net-zero economy by 2050. Al Tayer emphasized the need for a robust regulatory framework to support ongoing projects and initiatives, particularly in solar energy, water conservation, and green mobility.
To further enhance sustainability efforts, the Council approved a new programme to engage the private sector in developing electric vehicle charging stations, aiming to expand infrastructure across Dubai.
Since 2013, Dubai has been systematically collecting carbon emissions data, allowing for precise comparisons with annual reduction targets. Al Muhairbi highlighted the importance of performance indicators in ensuring the success of the city’s environmental goals, marking a commendable step towards a greener future.
