H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, presided over the Council’s 87th meeting, held virtually, to discuss key sustainability initiatives and energy regulations.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and several high-ranking officials from Dubai’s energy and infrastructure sectors.

The discussions focused on advancing Dubai’s sustainability agenda and reinforcing its global leadership in energy innovation, aligning with the Emirate’s ambitious goal of achieving net zero by 2050. A key highlight was the review of Dubai’s updated Green Building regulations, designed to enhance energy and water efficiency in new constructions, gradually transitioning them into zero-energy buildings.

Another critical agenda item was the regulatory framework for petroleum product trade. The Council reviewed the impact of Executive Council Resolution No. 16 of 2019, which established the Committee for Regulating the Trading of Petroleum Products. This has strengthened safety protocols, risk management, and compliance measures within the industry.

Al Tayer reaffirmed Dubai’s commitment to sustainability, stating,

“The updated Green Building regulations and the regulatory framework for petroleum trade reflect our proactive approach to sustainable governance, ensuring that Dubai remains a global leader in green innovation.”

He further emphasized the acceleration of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to transition to 100% clean energy production.

Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi highlighted Dubai’s role as a model for energy governance, noting that targeted action plans and regulatory oversight are crucial to strengthening safety, sustainability, and economic resilience.

The Council’s ongoing efforts reinforce Dubai’s position as a frontrunner in energy transformation, aligning with the leadership’s vision for a sustainable future.
