The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), chaired by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, recently convened its 83rd meeting virtually to review the performance of sustainable energy programmes.

The meeting, attended by key council members including HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of DSCE, and other prominent officials, highlighted significant achievements in energy and water savings.

The Council evaluated the semi-annual progress of initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable development through renewable and clean energy projects. These efforts align with Dubai’s Demand Side Management Strategy, which targets a 30% reduction in electricity and water usage by 2030 and 50% by 2050. Over the past five years, projects have emphasized increasing solar energy production, reducing consumption, expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure, reusing wastewater, and cutting carbon emissions.

In 2023, Dubai achieved substantial reductions in electricity and water consumption, saving 9.7 terawatt hours of electricity (15.9% reduction) and 18.8 billion imperial gallons of water (12.4% reduction). These savings equate to approximately AED 14.6 billion.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized the alignment with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aiming for 100% clean energy production capacity by 2050.

"We are steadily progressing in implementing the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, enhancing Dubai’s competitiveness and quality of life,"

he stated.

HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi highlighted the Council's commitment to establishing mechanisms and strategies supporting a green economy.

"These efforts ensure sustainable energy for future generations and a strong local economy,"

he added.

The Council’s regular evaluations and strategic initiatives are pivotal in positioning Dubai as a global leader in water and energy efficiency, contributing significantly to the emirate's sustainable and prosperous growth.
