HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), chaired the 86th meeting of the Council at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Hotel.

The meeting, attended by senior leaders including HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council, focused on advancing Dubai's sustainability initiatives.

The Council reviewed the latest developments in carbon capture technologies, exploring their potential in generating clean fuels such as green hydrogen and green ammonia to support industrial operations. This aligns with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030. Additionally, members discussed the technical and economic feasibility of these technologies in Dubai's context.

Another key focus was enhancing the performance of district cooling service providers to support the city’s sustainable urban growth. The Council approved new guidelines for retrofitting government buildings, aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing water and electricity consumption, and incorporating the Dubai Green Building System (Al Sa’fat) from 2026 onwards.

Al Tayer emphasized Dubai’s commitment to sustainable development in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai. He highlighted the Council’s efforts to ensure Dubai remains a global model for high-quality infrastructure, promoting a green economy and sustainable growth.

Secretary General, HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, added that the Council’s integrated model for energy, building, and infrastructure projects supports Dubai’s transition to a low-carbon economy, driving the city towards its future sustainability goals.
