Dubai Unveils ‘Erth Dubai’ Initiative to Document the Emirate’s Rich History and Heritage
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has launched ‘Erth Dubai,’ an ambitious initiative to preserve and document the emirate's rich history through the collection of personal stories and life experiences from its community members.
The project aims to highlight Dubai’s transformation over the years, showcasing the growth of the city and the lives of its people across generations.
In his announcement, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the importance of documenting Dubai's journey, which he described as one of ambition, resilience, and unity, driven by the visionary leaders who laid the foundation for the city's modern success. He highlighted that the initiative would strengthen the community’s understanding of its heritage, fostering a deeper connection with the national identity.
The project reflects the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with Sheikh Hamdan stating that it would safeguard the cultural legacy of Dubai, ensuring it endures and inspires future generations.
"Every story shared is a national treasure,"
he remarked, calling on all segments of society, from students to businesspeople, to participate and contribute to this collective memory.
The initiative will be carried out in phases, beginning with the gathering of submissions from the community. These stories will be evaluated by experts to preserve their historical and cultural significance. Collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) will also involve schools in encouraging students to document the stories of their families, fostering a sense of connection with the past.
‘Erth Dubai’ is part of a broader effort to preserve Dubai’s cultural heritage, complementing ongoing projects such as the Dubai National Archives Project, which aims to ensure that the emirate’s history remains accessible to future generations.
