Dubai has launched a new visual identity and enhanced addressing system for areas across the emirate, introducing unified signs and colours designed to reflect the geographic character of each community.

The Supreme Committee for Urban Planning rolled out the initiative in coordination with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality. It covers area identification signs, internal street name signs and house number plates, all developed with a specialist wayfinding consultant to make locations easier to identify and improve accessibility.

The plan covers 186 areas across 19 sectors and will be delivered in phases from the fourth quarter of 2026 through 2030. The first phase begins this year and includes more than 2,000 signs across five areas: Za'abeel 1, Za'abeel 2, Nad Al Sheba, Al Khawaneej 1 and Nazwa.

Five colours form the core of the new identity, each matched to an area's landscape. Blue marks areas near the sea, while gold represents those in desert surroundings. The aim is to give each community a distinctive look while keeping the addressing system consistent citywide.

Later phases will extend the identity to bus stops, smart applications and area map boards. QR codes will also be introduced to share details on sectors, the meanings behind street and area names, points of interest and other location-based content.

RTA and Dubai Municipality have set priority criteria for the rollout. These include urban growth and population density, the vibrancy and centrality of areas, the presence of residential and tourist attractions, and the share of streets not yet formally addressed.

The two bodies have also approved final designs for house number plates. Each plate will carry the property's Makani number and a QR code, with colours matched to the new signs to create a unified look and make locations easier to find.
